Tennessee’s Brentwood Baptist Church was founded in 1969 and has grown steadily since, building а new sanctuary, broadening its community outreach, and evolving into a multi-site congregation. Key milestones include the dedication of the Concord Road campus in 2002 and reaching а membership of 10,000 in 2016. The church celebrated half a century of ministry in 2019.
Brentwood Baptist currently serves communities across Tennessee through nine campuses, including the main Brentwood campus on Concord Road. The church’s mission is to “engage the whole person with the whole gospel of Jesus Christ anywhere, anytime, with anybody.” This commitment springs from the belief that Christ is the ultimate source of truth and life, and all good things come from Him. This foundational purpose shapes how each campus operates.
Guiding Brentwood Baptist’s day-to-day work and long-term direction are several core values. “Gospel first and always” puts the good news of Jesus Christ at the center of all life and ministry. “Intentional innovation” focuses on using resources and creativity thoughtfully to help people connect with Jesus. The church values “crossing cultures,” sharing the gospel with people of all kinds. Brentwood Baptist also champions the unique calling of individuals, recognizing that God gives everyone specific gifts, passions, and talents to spread the gospel. Finally, the church values discipleship, growing a network of believers.
Brentwood Baptist emphasizes the church’s role in uniting а world grappling with discord. The approach rests on the belief that ultimate reconciliation is only possible through Christ. It aims to align the church’s actions (orthopraxy) with its beliefs (orthodoxy) to promote unity among people and reconcile them with God. The church’s seven-day prayer guide for racial reconciliation prompts reflection, prayer, and steps toward unity and justice, tying each day to a scripture passage and prayer points to shape personal growth.
For Brentwood Baptist, membership helps deepen spiritual life and connects people meaningfully with the church community. Membership shows that a person accepts Christ as Lord and Savior and places Him at the heart of their faith. Baptism is an outward expression of this inner commitment.
The church also invites members to share personal faith journeys to inspire others. New members attend an introductory class to learn the church’s beliefs, values, and ways to get involved. There are also membership paths for students and kids.
Brentwood Baptist Church prioritizes the development of leaders for ministry and kingdom advancement. The church channels this work through its Middle Tennessee Leadership Institute (MTLI), which offers various initiatives. The Center for Christian Coaching helps leaders learn how to guide faith-based talks that help people grow. The Ministry Residency, a two-year program, trains leaders for full-time church roles, while the Bivocational Residency empowers individuals to lead in ministry while maintaining their regular jobs.
MTLI also operates the TNT program, a yearlong initiative that builds well-rounded leadership skills applicable to personal life, disciple-making, and broader Christian service. The EQUIP partnership with Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary offers accredited master’s-level studies in Christian ministry. Internships through MTLI provide valuable hands-on experience and clarity for those exploring a call to ministry.
Financial stewardship enables Brentwood Baptist Church’s work. The church promotes thoughtful and generous giving to fund gospel-sharing efforts locally and worldwide, support community outreach, and supply resources for spiritual growth. People can contribute in several ways: during Sunday services, by mail, through stock transfers, via estate plans, or as IRA distributions for those over 70. The church views giving as an act of trust in God, recognizing His provision and returning a share to Him.
